When a disastrous storm blows in, Willie's houses remain intact; Ray's collapse. In Stink Bug, a family boards a motor home to head off for a vacation at Six Rag amusement park. On the way, a rowdy gang stops them. Pop, severely injured, tells his son to get help and take the rest of the family with him. Marching ants, followed by snobbish butterflies, see him, but pass by without coming to his aid. A stink bug and snail rescue Pop, who is eventually reunited with the family. Both didactic picture books inject pop culture into the traditional parables. The rhyme schemes are often stretched. Speech bubbles set the dialogue apart from the text. Each book concludes with a clear statement of the moral. Children will be entertained by the many details in Smith's comical cartoon-style artwork, which varies in size and features blues, greens, yellows, and purples. Vehicles are made from recycled materials. Parents seeking more traditional biblical versions will need to look elsewhere, but these lively, action-filled retellings do make the lessons accessible to children. John Rutter was born in London in 1945 and studied music at Clare College, Cambridge. His compositions embrace choral, orchestral, and instrumental music, and he has edited or co-edited various choral anthologies, including four Carols for Choirs volumes with Sir David Willcocks and the Oxford Choral Classics series. From 1975 to 1979 he was Director of Music at Clare College, and in 1981 he formed his own choir, the Cambridge Singers. Excellent Advent devotional!

This is an excellent devotional for the Advent season, even if you don't belong to a denomination that practices Advent (I don't). A little different than most devotionals for Advent, this one runs from Dec. 1-31, right up to the new year.
The book is small and easy to carry on the bus or wherever. It includes a ribbon bookmark to keep your place. The pages are think and glossy - this book is built to last over many Christmas seasons! The daily Scriptures are printed in the book, so there is no need to go digging through your Bible unless you want to - there are additional readings for each day that do need to be looked up, but only if you have the inclination.
I give it four stars. I don't agree with everything in it, but I would recommend it to everyone. Can I give it 4 1/2 stars? ;)

A great Advent resourse

This is the third time I've used this book for Advent devotionals. I gave away my first copy so had to purchase another one. The devotions are brief put full of deep meaning. Dr. Miller does a great job of adding fresh insights to the very familiar Christmas story, helping us to make practical applications to our lives today.

Beautiful Christmas Devotional

The Christ of Christmas has been a family tradition of ours for at least six years. As soon as the tree is decorated everyone yells, "Get the Christmas Book!" Each night in December we curl up together, read the message, look up the scripture and pray together. I really can't imagine Christmas without it anymore. I've looked at other Advent devotionals but I'm not sure they dig as deeply into the staggering truth of what it meant for the world when Christ was born. If you desire to help your family keep it's focus on the wonder and beauty of Christ during the holidays, I highly recommend this book to you.

Very good summary and overview of mathematics

I'm not a mathematician, but I enjoy mathematics. This is a very good summary and overview of most of mathematics,I think. Some of the formulas are way over my head, but I enjoyed tidbits such as how to compute fractal dimensions and Ramanujan's formula for 1/pi. I didn't give it five stars because I wasn't familiar with some of the notation, and it took me awhile to figure them out.

Excellent Engineering Math Reference

This book has everything (geometry, trig, linear algebra, diff eq, calculus, ...) in a cleanly laid out format. Many figures are provided to clarify definitions. The presentation is clear and concise - usually I do not need to consult another reference for additional details. Out of my math/mechanical engineering book collection, this is probably my favorite book.

Handbook of Mathematics" contains the fundamental knowledge for Science and Engineer students. I am using the third edition a lot when I do the algorithm performance analysis. Also the nice and big printing style is enjoyable to read. It contains anything which a computer programmer need to know.
