Unlike what the editorial review states, this book is not about 2 young men from New York. Rather, this is the Spanish translation of The Outsiders, S.E. Hinton's first and most popular book. It's about 3 teenagers and their gang from the wrong side of the tracks in 1960s Tulsa, Okla. It's a great book about friendship and growing up and I would encourage anyone to read it. If you can read the English edition, do - it flows a lot better and is more realistic.

Thrills, spills and a poignant love story

I usually don't write 5-star reviews because I don't read them and I don't think many people do. But I have to leave a 5-star for one of my all time favorite books.

I had never heard of Harlan Coben and happened to see a signed copy of this in a bookstore. I bought it just because it was signed and the story looked good. Yes, I am THAT shallow. :) This is one of those books that I keep handy and read again and again and again....

Lots of others have described what the book is about. I'll just say that I read a lot. I am rarely shocked. The ending of this book had me GOBSMACKED. It was amazing.

i have gotten bored after a few novels. boy loses girl in some tragic event that boy refuses to let go. against impossible odds somehow the unexplainably deep love that refuses to die saves them. they all start to read the same. it's a shame. he's a fantastic writer.

not a good read.

This was my first Harlan Coben novel, and it will be my last. The plot was interesting enough (although somewhat far-fetched), but the writing was so hackneyed I had to force myself to finish it. Also, the Kindle edition lacked any separation between sections, which was sometimes confusing. It would take several sentences before you realized that the narrative had shifted to a different scene/character. All in all, not a good read.

Mathilde Marchesi (1821–1913) was probably the most renowned singing teacher of the late nineteenth century. Herself the pupil of the great Manuel Garcia the Second and the associate of the unsurpassable divas of the middle nineteenth century, she also linked the traditional bel canto teaching method to the beginning of the twentieth century. Early in her career her work was praised enthusiastically by Rossini, who was for a time officially in charge of voice training in France; and toward the end of her career she prepared such superstars as Melba, Calvé, Eames, Aida, and others.
This volume embodies Madame Marchesi's "vocal alphabet," or basic instructions and exercises that formed the voices of her great pupils. An introductory text discusses breathing, attack, registers, and similar matters, while the remainder of the book contains many exercises that teach voice management and projections.
Marchesi's book is today even more important than when it first appeared, for it offers the basis for a construction of the bel canto training system. At the time the book appeared, the bel canto system had gone out of fashion in favor of more modern schools that seemed to offer more rapid maturation, voice volume, and dramatics. Today, a more realistic reevaluation has revealed that the bel canto system gave the singer much longer performing life, a more pleasing voice, and far greater musical ability. As Philip Miller states in his introduction, "a solidity, a sure technical mastery, an even scale with no register break . . . strong, even and secure trills, their coloratura masterly." In addition, the resurgence of interest in early-nineteenth-century opera renders a work like Marchesi's indispensable to the modern singer.

Don't try this alone, kids!

While the book includes a set of progressive exercises which are definitely essential, Marchesi's comments on singing technique are limited to only a few pages. When you consider that leading pedagogues such as Richard Miller, Meribeth Bunch and others have devoted volumes to vocal technique, Marchesi's advice is sparse, to say the least. A good book if you are currently working with a teacher or are an advanced singer with solid classical technique looking for some new exercises. Not for the beginner to attempt alone!!!

A must have for those who want to learn bel canto

This book is mostly scales with a few pages of actual vocal technique. This is not for the beginner to use though. The person who uses this book should use it as a supplement to their own vocal studies and have a solid technique for the scales to actually work for you. I'm thorougly enjoying the book thus far.

Nice Vocal Exercises

I bought this book to review it and decide whether or not to use it in my studio for my students.

The preface in which she describes the glottal stroke is correct in that this is what happens upon phonation, but a singer may interpret it as to start the sound with a diliberate glottal stroke which is harsh on the vocal chords.

The exercises are nice and challenging. The progression of the exercices build on each other as well. I have started using this for my more advanced students.

Fake Dennis Is Not Very Interesting

Well, here's something That I could do without and be quite happy.
The author isn't the son of Hank Ketchum who based the cartoon on a five year old Dennis Ketchum and the entire idea for this book seems to be a work of fantasy. The illusion presented here is that this author Elly Vines ( in some other world distant from this one) believes he is the 'real Dennis and Hank observed him and based all of his comic ideas upon his actions.

This was a spoiled kid and there is an issue with an ego larger than Montana if the author thinks that any fan of the cartoon would be able to extract any value from this book.

El's childhood was definitely a fun adventure filled with larger-then-life characters and more-than-the-average-amount of anti-authority imagination and cunning. I am just relieved that my son was not as creative with devilish mischief as was El! JCB
