About the Author
One of Time magazine’s “icons of the century,” Ernesto Che Guevara was born in Argentina in 1928. After graduating from medical school, he traveled throughout Latin America. After meeting Fidel Castro in Mexico, he joined the revolutionary forces that overthrew the Batista dictatorship in Cuba in 1959. He became a central leader of the Cuban revolutionary government and later led guerrilla missions to Africa and Bolivia, where he was assassinated in 1967on the orders of the CIA. His life has been dramatized in two recent popular movies: “The Motorcycle Diaries” (directed by Walter Salles, starring Gael García Bernal) and Steven Soderbergh’s epic “Che” (starring Benicio Del Toro).
Ernesto Guevara is the younger son of Ernesto Che Guevara and Aleida March. He lives in Havana and works as a lawyer.

Those who want true insight into the man

For those of us who are inspired by him, 'Latin America Diaries' gives wonderful insight into the man himself. Whether alone or as a companion book for the Motorcycle Diaries and/or his other personal writings.
Ernesto Guevara books should be read regardless of who he became. Read them as you would any other great author. He had the ability bring to life sights, sounds, emotions; elicit feelings of romance, laughter, even tears. I am an avid reader of very diverse genre's (just about everything but romance novels). It is not often I find an author with the talent to make me forget I am reading a book; much less grabs me into 'living' the story. I am thrilled to have been able to read and add this to my collection of his works.
Beyond his talent, Che (once again) exposes the man he really was. His humor, passion for life, and love of people.
Che Guevara has either inspired or been hated by millions of people around the world.
Too, many people use his photo and quotes yet know nothing about who he really was and that is the true inspiration he gives all of us. He was and is so much more then a revolutionist, communist.
For those who hate the man based solely on his revolutionary actions and political beliefs: it is a 'really should read' book. How can a person be condemned by so many who have never taken the time to learn who he really was as a human being?
What drove him to leave his medical practice, family, money to fight knowing all along how his life would end? Why did he feel so strongly about the rights, equality, and fulfillment of basic needs for every human being?
If nothing else, just pretend its a work of fiction. Then base your opinions on the author vs who he became.

An Excellent Follow Up to “The Motorcycle Diaries"

If you are a huge fan of “The Motorcycle Diaries“ like I am, then this is a must read! A warning though, as Ernesto Che Guevara didn't have the opportunity to edit this diary prior to it's being published, it makes for choppy reading throughout large portions. This is aided significantly by the insertion of letters to his mother throughout and detailed footnotes. Overall, I highly recommend it.

The man before he became Che

very informative... well written considering it is a Diary and jumps around a bit... interesting to read about the 'man' before he became Che and how his travels influenced his future 'heroic' life... Love this book
